FDY YARN MANUFACTURING:- 

It is another quality of man-made fiber. FDY ( Fully Drawn Yarn) is produced by process similar to POY manufacturing except that the yarn produced at higher speed coupled with the intermediate drawing , heat set integrated in the process it self. This allow stabilization through orientation and crytallization.

FDY yarn is used as a weft ot weave in making fabrics. It can be knitted or woven with any other filament yarn to get fabrics of various colours and different varieties. It is mainly used in Home furnishing fabrics, Fashion fabrics, Denim.Terry and others.

Advantages of FDY Yarn:

1. It can be used to make colored fabrics directly inserted of making fabrics with raw-white first and then dyeing it.

2. FDY yarn are suitable for direct Twisting, warping and weaving.

3. The fabric made from these yarn have feel and drapes similar to fabrics produced from pure silk resulting high realisation and produced quality.

Difference between POY & FDY:-

Features of POY (Partially Oriented yarn):- 

(1) It is completely stretched filament yarn with an orientation degree between un oriented filaments and drawn filaments obtained by high speed spinning compared with undrawn yarn, it has good stability, but cannot be used for textile processing.

(2) POY can be stretched longer, because, it is a pre-oriented yarn, it is not fully stretched and the remaining elongation must be 80%.

(3) It is cold drawn yarn having higher elongation. The process includes the natural Oriented (partial) of molecular chain. It  produced in a semi-oriented moleculer structure.

(4) It is generally used to make textured (Polyester) yarn that can be also used in weaving or warping, and warp knitting of fabrics. It is preferred due to soft feel, better drape, high recover wrinkle resistance, long lasting prints and colors.

(5) It is available in many polymer lusters including semi-dull, bright, full dull , super bright and CFP. It is available in raw & rope dyed colours. It is available in different cross section as per end use, like circular, trilobal & other different shape as per end use.

 (6) It is given to the texturising company for texturising process. It is often used as a special yarn for draw false twisted, textured yarn ,(DTY) or as follows draw twisted (DT) yarn.

(7) It a capable in ladies dress material, shirts, suits,sarees, knitwears, home textiles, automotive material, sports wears etc.

(8) POY has approximate 2 to 5  crystallinity

(9) It has stable for short durations and can be stored only 6 to 8 months. 

(10) Due to the very high amorphous and low crystallinity region. POY has very high shrinkage, which range  from 59 to  70%.

(11) A process like DTY creates bulk in POY.

Features of FDY yarn:-

1. FDY is full stretch yarn. The synthetic fiber filament is futher obtained by spinning and drawing. The fiber has been fully stretched and can be directly used for textile processing. 

2. It is fully a oriented yarn , it can be stretched less. There may be elongation is generally below 40%  where it is relatively stretched.

3. It is not drawn yarn having lower elongation. The process includes the drawing /heat set and orientation of molecular chains. It is a highly drawn Polyester yarn filament/fully oriented filament.

4. FDY is highly compatible yarn that can be easily knitted or woven with other yarn to produce a variety of fabrics. It is preferred for use in warping after Twisting or sizing due to higher shrinkage and grain effect .

It is available in many polymer, lusters, including semi-dull, bright, & CDP . It is available in raw white , dope dyed colours and package dyed . It is available in different cross section as per end use, like circular , trilobal etc.

6. FDY mainly focuses on quality fabrics and avoid texturising. It is also used after twisting and is often used as spread yarn for drawn false twisted texturised yarn (DTY) or draw twisted (DT) yarn.

7. It is applicable in fabrication of clothes , curtains, high-end, sports wear , home furnishings, emboridey, sewing thread etc.

8. FDYbhas around 35% to 40% crystallinity.

9. It has a stable structure of and it remains stable through out life span.

10. It has shrinkage in the range of 6-12%. 

11. FDY is a flat yarn.
