TYPES OF YARN AND FIBER (REMIE FIBER):-

RAMIE FIBER:-
Ramie (pronounced, Ray-me) is one of the oldest vegetable fiber and has been used for thousands of years. It was used for Chinese burial shroud over 2,000 years ago, long before cotton was introduced in the Far East .

Remie is classified as cellulosic fiber just as cotton fiber, linen rayon. Leading producer of ramie are China , Taiwan , Koria, Phillipinese and Brazil. Until recently remie has been unknown in the ready-to-wear market in these country, but it is appearing more garments. It is often blended with cotton and available in woven and knit fabrics that resembles fine linen to coarse canvas.
Ramie uses increased in the 1980s with a fashion emphasis on natural fibres and a loophole in textile impart regulations . Ramie garments made of more than 50 % remie enterd the United State without import quota limits Legislation was passed in 1986 eliminating the quota free status of ramie.
Ramie is also known as China-grass ,Rhea and grass cloth . The fiber found in bark of the stalk. The process of transferring ramie fiber into fabric is similar to manufacturing linen from flax. The fiber is very fine and silk like natural white in color and has a higher luster.
Properties of Ramie fiber,:-
1) Ramie is the one of the strongest fiber.
2) Better strength when used in weft.
3) It is similar as linen.
4) It is not durable as othe fibers such as cotton or wool.
5)  It is known especially for its ability to hold shape, reduce wrinkling , and introduce a silky luster to the fabric appearance. 
Advantages of Ramie :-
(1) Resistance to bacteria mildews and insect attack.
(2) Extremely absorbent.
(3) Dyed fairly easy.
(4) Its strength increase when wet.
(5) With stand high water temperature during laundering.
(6) Smooth lustrous appearance improves with washing.
(7) keeps its shape and does not shrink.
 (8) It can be bleached .
Disadvantages of Ramie:-
a) Low in elasticity.
b) Lack resiliency.
c) Low abrasion resistance.
d) Wrinkle easily.
f) Stiff and bristle.
Ramie used as a blend:-
Ramie most often blended with othe fibrs for its unique strength absorbancy luster and dye-affinity. When blended with high-quality cotton it offers increased luster , strength and color. When mixed with wool ramie ads lightness and minimises shrinkage. When blended with Rayon , it offset the low wet strength. 
Uses of ramie fiber:-
Ramie is used in the fibres resembling linen. Such as apparel fabrics for shirts and short , table cloths, napkins and handkerchief . It is often found as a blend with cotton in knit sweater . Ramie is also used in fishnets canvas upholstery fabrics , straw, hat and fire hose

Care of Ramie:-
Ramie blended fabric can be laundered or dry-cleaned depending on the dyes , finishes and garments design. The care label will state the preferred method. The dry-cleaning method help preserve the beauty of woven ramie, olitem and gives best colour and shape retention and a wrinkle free appearance with causing , white ramie fabrics may be bleached with chlorine type bleaches. Ramie fabrics withstand ironing temperature 400 to 450° F or the cotton setting on iron. When strong remie or ramie blends , lay  them flat . Ramie fibers are brittle and tend to break . Avoide folding the garment or pressing sharp creases in woven fabrics.
