MOTIONS IN WEAVING:-

Motions in weaving:-
To produce woven fabric in textile industries, weaving machine is needed. The machine which is used to produce woven fabric by interlacing warp and weft is termed as weaving. During producing fabrics in weaving loom, some essential motion, i.e. shedding motion, picking motion, take-up motion , let-off motion etc. are used in weaving machines , known as loom motion.
Types of Motion in textile weaving:-
In textile weaving technology, loom motion is classified in three type. Those are;
(1) Primary motion.
(2) Secondary motion and,
(3) Tertiary or Auxiliary motion.
(1) Primary motion:-
Primary motion is the main motion of a weaving loom in textile industry. It is  impossible to produce a woven fabric in any weaving machine or loom machine without using these motions. That is why it is known as primary motion or primary mechanism.
Types of Primary motions in loom.
Primary motion are classified into three categories .Those are as under;
A) Shedding motion or shedding mechanism.
B) Picking motion or picking mechanism.
C) Beating up motion or beating mechanism.

All these motions is essential, without this motions weaving is impossible. These are explained in the following;
(A) Shedding Motion or Shedding Mechanism:-
During weaving the total warp yarns are divided in to two groups (layers) are  termed as shedding. Two groups yarns are made in the loom by raising and lowering of Heald frame (warp in Healds eyes in the frame) by the use of a tappet in loom or by pedals (treadles) of loom.
Besides tappet shedding, there are some other shedding mechanism also available, Dobby shedding and jacquard shedding is also well known to weaver.
(B) Picking Motion or Picking Mechanism:-
As the shed is formed in the loom, the weft yarn is inserted through the shed by picking mechanism. Normally a shuttle with weft yarn package called pirn, passes through the shed and leaves a weft yarn in the shed. This process of weft passage is called picking. Pirn detail will come after completion of this primary motion explanation.
There are different types of picking mechanism available in the loom to pass the weft yarn through the shed. Rapier, projectile, air jet, water jet, etc , weft insertion mechanism is popular in all over the world.
(B) Beating Motion or Beating mechnism:-
When the weft yarns are laid in the weaving shed , this weft yarn is smoothly packed to the fell of the cloth in a regular way be movement of the reed, which is secured in the sley. The sley is moved to and fro by gearing connecters, this connection gives movement to sley. This movement of sley gives beat-up to last pick laid in the shed with the help of Reed. Hence called beating motion or beat-up mechanism.
The above mentioned all three are primary motions of a weaving loom i.e. Shedding, picking and Beating is done in a cycle order and the fabric is manufactured. Then the fabric is passed over the front rest and wound on the cloth roller.
