Weft Replenishment Mechnism (shuttle changing);-
Earlier we have discussed about the Cop Changing Mechnism to make fabrics using different colours quality and counts or denier, without stopping the loom.
Now here is the another method is to change the weft in running is known as “Shuttle Changing mechanism (motion)”.
Each shuttle has different color , counts and quality. This chapter we have discussed briefly earlier . Now the details explanation are coming as follows.
Automatic Shuttle Chnanging loom:-
CHARACTERISTICS:
The automatic shuttle changing loom is simpler in construction than the cop changing one, but is more costly. The cops and shuttle used are of conventional type though a slot is cut in front of the shuttle for feeling the weft by the weft feeler. It is specially suitable for weaving pick-found cloth and of the finer qualities. The other characteristic features are the following:-
(a) Weft cutting at the shuttle change is a simpler operation;
(b) Weft tension is less; and
(c) Action of shuttle changing device is more smooth.
Methods of Changing Shuttle:-
The shuttle changing loom differ in the method of changing the shuttle and may be divided into two distinct types:-
(1) Looms which are automatically stopped for replenishment of the shuttle and restated automatically.
(2) Looms which run at full speeds even during the replenishment of shuttle.

The Hattersley’s automatic shuttle changing loom belongs to the first type, whereas other shuttle changing loom belongs to the latter type.
(i) Looms of the first type are more in use at present than the latter and different in general construction and arrangement of the mechanism, but the sequence of operation and the method of performing them are same in principle.
(ii) A magazine containing about ten shuttles is generally used and is placed in vertical position at the opposite end to the weft fork and weft feeler of the loom. For a change of shuttle the loom is automatically stopped, when the crank-shaft is at near the back centre and the shuttle is at the magazine side.
(iii) In certain makes of the looms, the driving pulley, weft feeler motion, brakes , camshaft and take-up motion are at the handle side, and the shuttle changing device , warp stop and let-off motion are at the magazine side. This types of loom is specially suitable for weaving finer qualities of cloths and is largely used in U.S.A.
(iv) These looms now provide a center weft fork and an electrical feeler motion for weaving silk, rayon, terelyne and finer qualities of cotton.
