Application of Pigments on Cotton and Other Cellulosic Fibers:-
Pigments Description:-
Pigments are insoluble coloring matter mostly organic and inorganic (mineral origin) have been used for the coloration of metal wood, stone, and textile material. Pigments have no direct affinity to textile fibers. They are fixed on textile materials with the help of a binding agent in form of a thin invisible coating. Pigments are both natural and synthetic in origin; and organic and inorganic in composition.
Application of pigments.
Properties of Pigments:-
1)Pigment are colored or colorless substances.
2) Pigment are inert and insoluble in aqueous media.
3)The term colorants cover both dyes and pigment.
4) Pigments has no affinity for the fibers.
5) But pigments can be used to all textile fibers with the help of binder.
6)Pigment are fixed onto the textile with binding agents in the pattern required.
7) Pigments provides complex range of colors.
8)Pigment provides greater degree of certainty in color matching.
9)Pigmented textile does not require various after treatments like dyed textile. 10) This makes high production of prints.
11) Pigments light and wet fastness is good but poor rubbing fastness in heavy shade.
12)It’s applied into the acid or alkali medium.
Pigments can be classified in following ways. These are:

1)Organic pigment.
2)Inorganic pigmen.

1) Organic Pigments.
a)Azo pigments.
b)Phthalocyanine pigments.
c)Quinacridone pigments.
d)Iso-indoline pigments.
2. Inorganic Pigments.
A) White pigments.
B)Colored inorganic pigments.
Trade Name of Pigments:-
I)Acramine.
II)Acron.
III)Aquabond.
IV) Helizarine.
V) Imperon.
VI)Noepralae.
VII) Seabond, lifebond.
VII)Syntrofix.
Application of Pigments on Cotton and Other Cellulosic Fibers:-
Pigments application on cotton fabric in almost all segments right from protective coating paints to decorative coating paints. Other application of pigments include emulsion paints, resin, and oil-based paints, aqueous based paints like lime etc., distempers, automotive finishes etc.
Recipe:-
Pigment——————10-16% O.W.M.
Ready paste————–90-95% O.W.M.
Ready paste recipe: —–[Binder 1kg + Acetic acid 0.5kg+water 1:5-10]
Fixing agent————–0.5-1% O.W.M
Curing Temperature—–150-180
Time ———————3-8 minute
Process Sequence for Application of Pigments:-
Ready paste solution making (Binder + Acetic acid + water)
Pigment solution making (Pigment + water)
Padding bath solution making (Ready paste soln + Pigment soln + Fixing agent)
Padding the fabric
Drying (at xsafor fixation at 150-180oC in 3-8 minute)
Conclusion:-
Pigment are using in different place of textile dyeing and printing. So it’s need to have some good criteria. We can found many advantage and disadvantages of it.
